The Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development in Kaduna State, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, on Thursday, expressed concern over rising cases of violations of children in the state.
Baba said in an interview with the reporters in Kaduna that rape of children topped the list of violations recorded in 2019.
“Child violation data in the state is showing that we had so many rape cases in 2019.
“The governor is so concerned and many people are being arrested for that.
“With the prompt action of the present administration and the signing into law of the Child Welfare and Protection Act, a lot of people are coming to seek justice,” she said.
“What is disturbing is that we have many male children also being violated,” she added.
Baba said the government was pursuing about 56 rape cases in court, pledging that the Ministry of Justice would ensure that justice is done to the victims.
“Last week, a rapist was convicted and jailed for eight years by Justice Hannatu Balogun,” she said.
The commissioner said the state government had constituted a task force on monitoring of all cases of rape across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
