The 64th edition of the Ballon d’Or gets underway this evening as footballing elites walk the red carpet in Paris as they make their way to the ceremony at Theatre du Chatelet.
We may have already had our first spoiler for tonight’s ceremony with a leaked document claiming that Lionel Messi has won his sixth Ballon d’Or ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, there is still certainly some mystery to come from tonight with women’s Ballon d’Or, Kopa Trophy and new Yashin Award to be awarded for the performing women’s football player, under-21 and goalkeeper, respectively.
Sportmail’s Danny Gallagher will provide live coverage of 2019 Ballon d’Or ceremony including red carpet updates and the winners of the Kopa Trophy, women’s Ballon d’Or and Yashin Award.

The Ballon d’Or organisers have told Sportsmail that last year’s ‘twerking’ incident involving 2018 winner Ada Hegerberg was an “individual error” and this year’s ceremony will have a “different tone” and an “emphasis on emotion and football.”
Meanwhile Sweden international Kosovare Asllani is the first to arrive on the red carpet.
Though making the shortlist it’s unlikely she’ll be going home with the gong but we can expect the stars of the women’s game to arrive in force tonight – for many it’s an act of solidarity as much as crowning the world’s best player.
Cristiano Ronaldo will not be present at tonight’s glitzy bash in the French capital, as his bitter rival Lionel Messi prepares to pick up the honour for a record sixth time.
Virgil van Dijk is still strongly in contention, though all odds currently point to the maestro from Rosario reclaiming his title.
