The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, on Friday, said that policies initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari were meant for the growth, development and well being of Nigerians.
He called Nigerians to always patronise local products to fast track the development drive of the government.
The minister, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 17th meeting of the National Council on Science and Technology in Awka, Anambra State capital, said the bulk of policies under Buhari’s administration were targeted at putting Nigeria on the track of sustainable development.
Speaking on t the theme of the meeting, “Moving Nigeria from import-dependent to a sustainable self-reliant and exporting nation through science, technology and innovation,” the minister said it was apt in view of the numerous challenges facing the country including security and rampant cases of smuggling across the borders.
Abdullahi said, “President Buhari administration had initiated guided reforms for the growth, development and well being of the citizens.”
He added that the ministry was working hard to synergise the organised private sector for research and development.
Earlier, Professor Theresa Nkechi Obikezie, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Anambra State, said the goal of the National Council on Science and Technology was to promote the scientific development and technological modernisation of Nigeria through developing high level of human resources, promoting and maintaining scientific research projects as well as disseminating scientific and technological information.
