Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday said that his administration would explore the advantages of technology to ensure adequate healthcare delivery to residents. He noted that advancement in technology has simplified various medical procedures which decades ago could not be easily accomplished.
Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at the ongoing Medic West Africa Conference in Lagos, implored residents to key into the state health insurance scheme, as it is the way to go and be able to cater for all residents irrespective of their economic status.
The governor was optimistic that if residents support and subscribe for the scheme, it would enable government prioritise its healthcare programmes to enhance its quality and affordability to the residents.He said the health insurance coverage must be scaled up as a condition to build the confidence of private investors in the scheme, which he said, was created to remove burden on the residents by providing affordable healthcare.
The governor said the state road ambulance scheme would be revamped to create more ambulance points across the state including deployment of emergency responders to each ambulance point to give palliative treatment to the injured before being taken to hospitals.He said his administration would not pay lip service to the upgrading of the state-owned specialist hospitals, adding that the primary healthcare centres were being strengthened to reduce pressure on the secondary health facilities.
