Year seven students of Brickhall School, Abuja, have successfully developed and launched an educational and game mobile application that would aid teaching and learning in Nigerian schools.

The pupils were said to have developed the application with the aid of their teachers, to help schools, churches, social groups and other interested individuals to easily discover locations where kids of different ages could go for educational trips, excursion and possibly have practical knowledge of their classroom works.

Some other kids in the same ICT and robotics class developed another application that save the environment by teaching its users how to recycle materials such as plastic, paper etc. The last group developed an application that sells cup cakes to its users.

The applications were some of the creative works of the students that were displayed at the 2019 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) exhibition held in the school premises. It attracted of parents of the pupils, guests, friends of the school and students of other schools.

Other creative works exhibited at the event were paintings, sculptural works, products made from recycled waste materials, and several other amazing products made by the children of different age and class.

Executive Director of the school, Nneka Emodi-Eze, agreed that 21st century world is ruled by knowledge and entrepreneurship, hence the desire of the school to develop the entrepreneurial capacities of the pupils for global relevance.

She warned that Nigeria cannot afford to take back seat in issues that concern technology and entrepreneurship which is the main driver of the economies of developed countries.

Emodi-Eze was afraid that Nigerian children might loose the opportunity to be global citizens if they are not provided with knowledge that would help them participate in global discussion.

The ED expressed extreme fulfillment with what the children produced and promised that the school management will continue to support courses that would improve the entrepreneurship skills of the children.

She explained: Our year seven kids were taught application development during the computer science aspect of ICT and robotics classes. They were divide into groups and they assiduously worked together to develop different applications. The prototype of the applications where showcased by the children during the 2019 STEAM fair.

Some of the kids developed educational application that help schools, individuals and anyone interested to find different attractions and locations where kids of different ages and in different states of the country could go for excursion.

Some focused on application that saves the environment by teaching its users how to recycle materials such as plastic, paper etc. The last group developed an application that sells cupcakes to its users.

Meanwhile, the founder of the school, Senator Joy Emodi, said she was not surprised by the level of ingenuity and creativity spirit in the pupils which could be seen in their end product.

She said it was a pointer to the fact that time and resources invested by the management and teacher, in teaching the children were not wasted.

Senator Emodi assured parents that the school will not hesitate to invest more in courses that would ensure that children get the best of knowledge required for global relevance in 21st century world.
