Manchester United are in the clear to sign Toby Alderweireld this summer, according to reports. Alderweireld has long been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils couldn’t convince Tottenham to sell last summer.
The Belgian is considered one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, but Spurs are resigned to losing Alderweireld.
The Mirror claim Tottenham expect to sell Alderweireld in the final two weeks of the summer transfer window for just £26million. That knockdown figure comes into play due to a clause in Alderweireld’s contract, which expires in 2020, and the defender is refusing to pen a new deal with Spurs.
United are favourites to land Alderweireld, despite interest from Barcelona and Juventus.
Alderweireld was a target of previous manager Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to renew United’s search for an elite centre-back at the end of the season.
United are tipped to spend big this summer as the club aim to overhaul the squad in a bid to challenge for silverware next term.
Solskjaer is expected to be given the United job on a permanent basis and is targeting the likes of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
