The Liverpool goalkeeper is on a two-year contract with the Turkish side but has reported Besiktas for FIFA as they have allegedly failed to pay him for four months.
German publication Bild states that Karius asked for the outstanding cash to be paid within 10 days but that has not happened. The 25-year-old is now expecting FIFA to step in to force Besiktas to stump up the money or face a hefty punishment.
Karius moved to Turkey on loan after two woeful errors in last season’s Champions League final and the arrival of Alisson at Liverpool. He has started 21 of Besiktas’ 25 Super Lig games, but his performances have drawn ire from the fans and his manager in Istanbul.
Besiktas boss Senol Gunes said after a 3-2 victory over Konyaspor on Sunday: He was at fault for the goals he conceded. It has been like that since the beginning. He does not really feel a part of the team, it’s something we haven’t been able to work out and, of course, I am partly to blame for this. Something is wrong, he has also been unlucky.
He is talented but it hasn’t worked out and we have a problem. Let me put it this way, if I still had Tolga available I would play him.
35-year-old Turkey international Tolga Zengin was suspended for the match, and it seems he will be returning to the starting line-up at the earliest opportunity.
