The cast and crew of Empire are reportedly concerned over the future of the show, as it still hasn’t been renewed by Fox.
Empire has been making headlines in recent months, thanks to the ongoing investigation into Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon in the series being attacked in Chicago at the end of January.
Jussie was attacked by two masked men and the incident was initially treated as a hate crime by authorities, as he claimed he suffered racial and homophobic abuse during the ordeal.
Two men were questioned and released over the attack and Jussie was later charged and arrested for filing a false police report. He has been accused of orchestrating’the attack allegations he has continuously denied.
He was released after posting bail, but is now facing 16 charges, including one Class 4 felony charge for disorderly conduct.
TMZ reports that Empire cast and crew are now growing concerned over the show’s future amid the ongoing case involving in Jussie especially as the show is yet to be picked up for a sixth season.
A source claims to the publication that anxiety is high among the cast and crew, as they expected to hear news of the show being renewed by now. The insider added that cast and crew feel Jussie’s case will be a big factor in whether or not the show gets picked up again and there are serious reservations about having the actor return.
