According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Zulum scored 1,175,440 votes to beat Mohammed Alkali Imam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 66,115 votes.

INEC returning officer for the governorship election and vice chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe state, Professor Alhassan Mohammed Gani, made the announcement.

Prof Gani said the number of registered voters in the state was 2,316,218 while those accredited for the election amounted to 1,292,138.

According to him, the total number of votes cast at the election was 1,289,027; the total valid votes was 1,266,967; and the total number of rejected votes was 22,060. He announced that 32 parties participated in the election.

Professor Babagana Umara Zulum of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.
