Super Eagles striker and new Shanghai Shenhua signing, Odion Jude Ighalo, has revealed that he is very excited to be joining the club from relegation team Changchun Yatai in the Chinese league.
Ighalo has joined Chinese Super League (CSL) outfit Shanghai Shenhua for the upcoming 2019 season, which starts on March 1, and will be looking to make an immediate impact as he is no stranger to the league in China.
In a chat, Ighalo revealed that he remains excited at joining the club.
“I’m very happy to be joining Shanghai Shenhua from ChanChung Yatai.
“This is a step forward in my career, looking forward to achieving great things at the club and to God be all the glory”.
The former Watford striker, who scored 20 goals in his debut season to help the club earn promotion to the top flight, has been heavily linked with a move to England with Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs and even Barcelona believed to be interested in signing the Nigeria international.
The former Granada of Spain and Udinese player also revealed that he had a chat with Obafemi Martin’s who featured for the club before now for advice.
“Yeah, I had a chat with Obagoal (Obafemi Martins), very nice guy”.
“Before accepting the deal, I spoke with him and he told me to go for it as the club are a nice club and will look after me”
“He was in Shanghai yesterday when I signed and he congratulated me”.
There’s no doubt that Ighalo will be in safe hands at the Hongkou Football Stadium as he links up with Quique Sanchez Flores once more after spending an impressive season with the current Shenhua coach at Watford.
