Despite not attending, Ariana still seemed to be tuning into the Grammys and live tweeted throughout the show, praising Janelle Monae for her performance and delivering her thank you speech on social media after winning best pop vocal album.

She beat the likes of Pink, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift and took home the award for her album Sweetener.

Ariana tweeted: I know i’m not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things…

But fuck …….  this is wild and beautiful. thank you so much. ‘I love u @pharrell@scooterbraun @allisonjamiekayeevery human being at @republicrecords @awsuki@ilya_music Max Martin @tbhits@victoriamonet @socialhouse@recordingacademy & the voters.’

She added: ‘But mostly thank y’all for being my main source of joy and inspiration always.

Ariana had accused the Grammys of stifling her creativity and accused show boss Ken Ehrlich of lying about the reasons she had pulled out of the awards show.

He claimed that Ariana told him she didn’t have enough time to put a performance together.

Grande tweeted in response: ‘I’ve kept my mouth shut but now you’re lying about me. i can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken.

It was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend. i hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more.

Ken has since responded and said: ‘I saw those tweets and what she said. I guess it was a surprise. ‘I will say this, and they don’t want me to say it but I’m going to say it.

The thing that probably bothered me more than whatever else she said about me is when she said I’m not collaborative.
