During a Grammys 2019 ad-break, Disney managed to sneak in a new minute-long trailer featuring Mena Massoud in the title role and Naomi Scott as Jasmine.

However, it’s Will Smith’s turn as the Genie that’s gotten everyone talking. Initial complaints when Will, 50, debuted as the iconic character on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, were that he wasn’t blue.

Well, the Genie is finally blue but fans still aren’t convinced. One Disney fan wondered: ‘The hell happened to genie?’ while another quite directly stated: ‘Genie looks so bad.’ Not exactly hopeful for the Aladdin remake, another pleaded: ‘It’s not too late to just not do this,’ while one admitted: ‘Well, i was getting all excited, flipped out when i saw carpet, but then you had to go and show genie.’ Yikes. Sounds like Disney’s got a fight on their hands with Aladdin.

Sharing his own reaction to the trailer release, Will wrote on Instagram: ‘I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!! Y’all need to trust me more often!’

Back in December when Will first appeared as the beloved Genie, he admitted to the publication that he finds it daunting stepping into Williams’ shoes.

The actor said: Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying. The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn’t leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character.

After outrage over the fact he wasn’t blue, Will was forced to wade into the backlash to clarify that the CGI was still being perfected.

He told Instagram followers at the time: ‘I’m gonna be BLUE! 🙂 This is how the Genie is in Human / Disguise Form. My character will be CGI most of the movie.

Aladdin, which is a remake of the 1992 animation starring the late Robin Williams, will also star Billy Magnussen and is set for release on 24 May.
