Chinese smartphone brand Oppo marked its launch into the UK this week, piling extra competition onto the likes of Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

The company was only founded in 2004 but has grown to become the fifth-biggest smartphone maker in the world. Now it reckons it can crack the UK market with a few good looking, well-priced Android handsets.

The most interesting of those is its flagship, the Oppo Find X that features a pop-out selfie camera as a way of avoiding having a notch on the top of the screen.

It also uses what Oppo calls ‘3D Structured Light Technology’ to scan your face in order to unlock it. Hurrah!

The phone captures 15,000 dots on your mug and uses intelligent analysis to recognise it when you lift the phone up.Oppo says it’s 20 times safer than fingerprint recognition when it comes to unlocking.

Oppo is also launching its RX17 Series in Blighty – which trades heavily on its photo-taking ability. The Oppo RX17 Pro features smart aperture, high dynamic range and optical image stabilisation for taking snazzy pictures. The Oppo RX17 Pro packs a triple-lens camera on the back ‘

This has been one of the brand’s most anticipated European decisions so far and we are proud to be bringing Oppo’s long history of technological innovation and beautiful design to this market,’ said Terance Tan, the executive director of sales at Oppo.

Oppo phones are already available in France, Germany and the Netherlands .

The company is selling its devices through Carphone Warehouse and the Find X and RX17 Pro will set you back £799 and £549 respectively
