A sickening video shows a driver deliberately mounting the pavement mowing down an unsuspecting teenage girl on a shopping trip with her mother.

The 17-year-old was left with serious head and neck injuries following the smash in Bromsgrove Street, Birmingham city centre at around 6.30pm on January 28.

The shocking 16-second clip shows the mother and daughter casually walking down the street as a black BMW 5 Series comes into view behind them and stops at a junction.

The driver even indicates as he calmly turns into the road before suddenly swerving onto the pavement and ploughing into the girl – sending her sprawling across the concrete.

Her mother throws up her arms in horror and rushes to the girl’s aid as the car speeds away.

Another car driving closely behind the BMW appears to carry on without stopping.

The victim was taken to hospital and is said to still be recovering from her injuries.

West Midlands Police has launched an investigation to track down the driver and is urging anybody with information to come forward.

But suddenly the driver swerves onto the pavement and drives straight towards the girl

Neither of them even realise that the vehicle is coming towards them, and the girl has no time to brace herself

PC Mark Nicholson, from the force’s traffic unit, said: ‘A teenager suffered serious neck and head injuries and is still in shock from what happened.

‘I would urge anyone with information to call us and I want to appeal directly to the driver to do the right thing and come forward.’

The footage caused outrage on the West Midlands Police Facebook page when it was uploaded today (24/2).

Jennifer Jarvis Streeter said: ‘OMG have seen some things in my life but that is close to the worst, deliberate attempted murder.’

Penny Dyer added: ‘Did the driver behind not get the car’s details & call the police? Surely they didn’t just drive on after witnessing that? So shocking!’
